Comic-Con: Francis Ford Coppola on vampires, loss and superfandom
During Francis Ford Coppola’s unorthodox presentation at Comic-Con Saturday for his new horror film, “Twixt,” the director moderated his own panel, distributed paper masks of Edgar Allan Poe and sang along with footage. It was Coppola’s first trip to Comic-Con in nearly 20 years, to show attendees some of his movie starring Val Kilmer as a D-list writer and Elle Fanning as a ghost named V. After emerging from the San Diego Convention Center’s Hall H, the director spoke with Hero Complex’s Rebecca Keegan about the experience, his plans for “Twixt” and his own fanboy sensibilities. RK: How does this compare to your last trip to Comic-Con? FFC: I was here for “Dracula” and all we did was get up and tell a little bit about the movie and left. Comic-Con 2011: Francis Ford Coppola returns to horror with ‘Twixt’
Francis Ford Coppola returned to Comic-Con International for the first time in nearly 20 years to promote his independent horror movie, “Twixt.” The director of “The Godfather” and “Apocalypse Now” brought a homespun presentation to the San Diego Convention Center’s 6,500-seat Hall H, singing, shuffling through random scenes of his film on an iPad and moderating his own panel by asking his leading man, Val Kilmer, to “vamp,” while he worked out some technical glitches. “Twixt” stars Kilmer as a “bargain basement Stephen King”– as the small-town sheriff played by Bruce Dern describes him in the footage Coppola showed. Dern’s character tips Kilmer to a story of a real murdered girl, who appears in fantasy sequences as a ghost named “V” (Elle Fanning). “I’ve always loved the gothic romance story, the horror story,” Coppola said, hearkening back to his early ...

Francis Ford Coppola to show portions of ‘Twixt’ at Comic-Con’s Hall H
Francis Ford Coppola will show portions of his upcoming film “Twixt” at Comic-Con International. “Twixt,” the story of a writer who gets caught up in a murder mystery, is meant to be an interactive experience incorporating 2-D and 3-D elements, Coppola spokeswoman Nicolette Aizenberg said. In tow at the Comic-Con presentation will be Dan Deacon, an electronic musician well known for his live performances, which usually involve large-scale audience participation. Coppola’s Saturday, July 23, presentation at Hall H — the main stage at the annual gathering of fanboys, filmmakers, cinephiles and stars — marks the first time the iconic director has attended Comic-Con since 1991, when he brought his lavish adaptation of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” to San Diego. “Twixt” stars Val Kilmer, Bruce Dern, Ben Chaplin and “Super 8” star Elle Fanning as a mysterious ghost, and brings Coppola back ...
