Director Gareth Edwards appeared at the Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures presentation at WonderCon in Anaheim on Saturday to unveil footage from his upcoming “Godzilla” remake, due in theaters May 16. The glimpse fans saw provoked a wild reaction. “And that’s why we make movies,” he said as the lights came up after the screening of the footage. What drove the fans into a frenzy? It wasn’t just the glimpses of Godzilla rising from the Pacific to lay waste to Honolulu, although the footage, even with incomplete visual effects, was impressive. It was the presence of a creature that, until now, has not been seen in any of the film’s marketing. In the new film, fans will get to see their Godzilla fight Mothra, or at least a giant winged creature that bears a vague resemblance to a moth. Edwards […]

In a detailed interview, actress Emilia Clarke reveals how her approach to playing the Mother of Dragons on the hit HBO fantasy has evolved over the lifespan of the sprawling series, based on the bestselling novels of George R.R. Martin. “I’ve been growing with her, which is the exciting part,” Clarke said. “Man, she’s got more strength than I have, that’s for sure. Getting to be with her throughout this growth process is so exciting as an actor. ‘Godzilla’ TV spots showcase King of All Monsters, massive destruction

A new TV spot for this summer’s coming monster blockbuster “Godzilla” debuted Wednesday, spotlighting epic scenes of destruction presumably caused by the King of All Monsters. The clip comes on the heels of an earlier spot released Tuesday that showcases explosive action scenes and concludes with an image of Godzilla himself. “Godzilla”  is directed by Gareth Edwards, whose ambitious independent film “Monsters” garnered critical praise for its mash-up of big visual effects and small art-house atmosphere in 2010. In “Monsters,” Edwards turned heads with his use of sound and character emotion to build an atmosphere of suspense despite a limited budget, and if the early footage from the film is any indication, he seems to use similar tactics in “Godzilla.” The movie’s ensemble cast includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and Bryan Cranston, and last year at Comic-Con International in San […]

Godzilla trailer (featured imate)
A new trailer for “Godzilla” is out, teasing horror, destruction and, finally, a first glimpse at the King of All Monsters himself. Previously released teasers showed the kaiju’s silhouette through billows of smoke and smog, but the new footage reveals his full, enormous form. “Godzilla”  is directed by Gareth Edwards, whose ambitious independent film “Monsters” garnered critical praise for its mash-up of big visual effects and small art-house atmosphere in 2010. In “Monsters,” Edwards turned heads with his use of sound and character emotion to build an atmosphere of suspense despite a limited budget, and if the new trailer is any indication, he seems to use similar tactics in “Godzilla.” The trailer begins with narration by “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston, who plays Joe Brody, over a montage of destruction and chaos. “You’re not fooling anybody when you say that […]

‘Godzilla’ trailer: King of Monsters strikes terror in first teaser

'Godzilla' (featured image)
The first full-length trailer for “Godzilla” was out Tuesday morning, revealing plenty of tension, copious destruction and an enormous, havoc-wreaking kaiju. “Godzilla”  is directed by Gareth Edwards, whose ambitious independent film “Monsters” garnered critical praise for its mash-up of big visual effects and small art-house atmosphere in 2010. Despite the enormous scale of the remake, the trailer seems to emphasize the ordinary people who get caught in the monster’s wake. The teaser begins with a group of military troops preparing to jump from a plane and face off against Godzilla. “I realize not all of you have had hands-on experience, and frankly, none of us have ever faced a situation quite like this one before,” their commander tells them. “But I would not be asking any one of you to take this leap if I did not have complete faith […]
