Hugh Jackman — who has played Wolverine in seven “X-Men”-related films and counting — appears to be nearing the end of his run as the ornery Marvel mutant. The actor is set to reprise his long-running role in a third as-yet-untitled solo Wolverine film in 2017, a project he’s now alluding will be his last hurrah as the character. The star hinted at the news in a recent Instagram post (below) that reads “WOLVERINE …ONE LAST TIME. HJ” Don’t despair — there may still be a few opportunities to see Jackman in the Wolverine role. Although it is unconfirmed, Jackman is rumored to be appearing in “X-Men: Apocalypse,” due in theaters May 27, 2016, and could potentially make a cameo in “Deadpool,” set for February 12, 2016. Jackson’s Instagram post comes just days after Jennifer Lawrence revealed to MTV that “Apocalypse” will mark her last appearance as the shape-shifting Mystique. The […]

Hugh Jackman channels his inner pirate in the new trailer for “Pan,” the latest fairy tale retelling headed for the big screen. Directed by Joe Wright, “Pan” serves as a prequel to the traditional Peter Pan story, with Jackman stepping in as Blackbeard, the leader of a clan of flamboyant pirates who ferry young Peter (newcomer Levi Miller) from an English orphanage into the colorful realm of Neverland. There, he encounters a dashing — and not yet villainous — Hook (Garrett Hedlund) and an empowered Tiger Lily (Rooney Mara). Acclaimed filmmaker Wright is perhaps best known for period dramas such as “Pride & Prejudice,” “Atonement” and “Anna Karenina,” and the trailer for his latest underscores his facility for sumptuous detail, though he wasn’t the sole architect of the movie’s distinct look; Aline Bonetto, who previously collaborated with singular stylist Jean-Pierre […]

The first trailer is out for “Chappie,” the next science-fiction undertaking by South African filmmaker Neill Blomkamp. “Chappie,” due in theaters March 6, 2015, is Blomkamp’s third feature film, following the Oscar-nominated “District 9” in 2009 and last year’s “Elysium.” The film is a sort of coming-of-age story about an artificially intelligent robot who is kidnapped by two gangsters. Played by Blomkamp’s longtime collaborator Sharlto Copley through performance-capture technology, Chappie is a childlike character who is still learning about the world and his potential place in it. “I brought you into this world. A machine that can think and feel,” says Chappie’s creator Deon, a scientist played by Dev Patel (“Slumdog Millionaire”), in the trailer. “Anything you want to do in your life, you can do. Write poetry, have original ideas.” Chappie paints, explores and learns from television, watching He-Man in “Masters […]

Bryan Singer will direct “X-Men: Apocalypse” for Fox. Singer originally announced the project on Twitter last December; the movie will be released May 27, 2016, and will see the mutants face off against the popular titular villain of the 1990s story line “Age of Apocalypse.” “It’s another one of the great ‘X-Men’ story lines, which is cool,” franchise writer-producer Simon Kinberg said in an interview with Hero Complex earlier this year while promoting the release of this summer’s hit “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” which featured an end-credits cameo by Apocalypse, also known as En Sabah Nur. “Not all superhero movies, comic book movies, will follow story lines from the books, and one of the things we’ve been doing with the ‘X-Men’ movies recently is taking books as inspiration and following those stories,” he said. “One of the challenges of […]

To be clear, Hugh Jackman says it was his idea for Wolverine to be naked in “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” Early on in the new film, which brought in $111 million in its debut over the Memorial Day weekend, Jackman’s Wolverine is transported from a bleak future into a far groovier past, where he wakes to find himself without clothes — and in a waterbed no less. “The scene was written that Wolverine gets out of bed wearing boxer shorts and I’m like, I’m sorry, boxer shorts and Wolverine doesn’t go together,” Jackman said in an interview with Hero Complex. “They said, Don’t worry, we’ll make it briefs. I was like, Yeah, that’s worse. I said, ‘If he’s in bed with a girl, I don’t think he’s getting out wearing underwear.’ I just felt like I was really letting […]

Ellen Page was 18 when she first assumed a superhero pose as Kitty Pryde in “X-Men: The Last Stand.” The 2006 mutant sequel enjoyed a prosperous debut, taking in upward of $100 million at the box office, even if some fans were ultimately disappointed by the way the film adapted the classic Dark Phoenix saga for the screen. Now, Page is back as Kitty Pryde in “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” which rocketed to the top of the box office over Memorial Day weekend with roughly $111 million in receipts since opening May 23 and seems to be connecting with fans who are hailing the movie as a return to form for director Bryan Singer. “I was just stoked to be back and thrilled to play Kitty again,” Page said in a telephone interview with Hero Complex. “She’s grown herself […]

Hoping to rack up serious mainland box office, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” premiered Tuesday in Beijing, with cast members Hugh Jackman, Peter Dinklage and Fan Bingbing strolling the red carpet in the Chinese capital. Hollywood superhero films are doing strong business in China of late. “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” has taken in $55.6 million in its first eight days of release — $5 million more than the first installment earned in 2012, film industry consulting firm Artisan Gateway said Tuesday — while “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” has topped $115 million on the mainland. The “X-Men” sequel is set to open in China on May 23 – the same day as many other countries around the world. The film adapts one of the most popular storylines from “X-Men” history, a two-part saga from Chris Claremont and John Byrne that […]

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” director Bryan Singer has officially bowed out of efforts to promote the May 23 release due to the ongoing legal scandal that erupted in the wake of a teen sex abuse lawsuit filed against him. “The allegations against me are outrageous, vicious and completely false. I do not want these fictitious claims to divert ANY attention from ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past.’ This fantastic film is a labor of love and one of the greatest experiences of my career. So, out of respect to all of the extraordinary contributions from the incredibly talented actors and crew involved, I’ve decided not to participate in the upcoming media events for the film,” Singer said in a statement issued Thursday. Just this past weekend, Singer had been scheduled to take the stage in Anaheim for Fox’s presentation at […]

The final trailer for “X-Men: Days of Future Past” has debuted, and the clip spotlights the critical role in the narrative played by Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. “I was sent here for you, from the future,” Jackman’s Logan says to a younger Charles Xavier, played by James McAvoy. “Could you give me that one more time please?” the disheveled Xavier asks with a laugh. Mutant fans can check out the clip promoting the director Bryan Singer’s film, which is set to arrive in theaters May 23, below. Adapted from one of the beloved comic book story lines conceived by Chris Claremont, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” stars actors from Matthew Vaughn’s 2011 prequel “X-Men: First Class,”and the original “X-Men” trilogy, which launched in 2000 with Singer’s original “X-Men” and arguably ushered in the current golden age of comic book films. “Future […]

Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) and Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) are on the run in the latest clip from Bryan Singer’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” Mutant fans can check out a new sequence from the Fox film, which is set to arrive in theaters May 23. “Days of Future Past” picks up after Matthew Vaughn’s 2011 prequel “X-Men: First Class,” which chronicled the mutant superheroes’ origins as young people in the 1960s, discovering and learning to manipulate their powers. The new film, adapted from one of the beloved comic book story lines conceived by Chris Claremont, stars actors from “First Class” and the original “X-Men” trilogy, which launched in 2000 with Singer’s original “X-Men” and arguably ushered in the current golden age of comic book films. “Future Past’s” expansive cast includes James McAvoy playing the younger Xavier, with Michael Fassbender and Ian […]
