“Iron Man 3″ will open in the U.S. and in China on May 3 — a rare feat of so-called day-and-date timing. But for all of the pre-production publicity about how Disney’s Marvel Entertainment and China’s DMG Entertainment joined forces to make the superhero sequel an international collaboration, the few extra sequences shot for the Chinese version of the movie won’t be part of its American release. In an interview Monday, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios and the producer of “Iron Man 3,” described the scenes as “a very minor extra story line” that involves a character named Dr. Wu (Wang Xueqi). Actress Fan Bingbing has a role as well, as a woman close to the doctor. “Iron Man 3″ co-writer and director Shane Black did not direct the scenes that filmed in China, and star Robert Downey Jr. […]

Tony Stark actor Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle and more Marvel actors are scheduled to walk the red carpet at the Hollywood premiere of “Iron Man 3″ Wednesday evening. Hero Complex readers can watch the premiere live, streamed from Disney’s El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood at 6 p.m. PDT, in the video below. The film, which opens in theaters May 3, pits Downey’s genius billionaire superhero against the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) — one of the archvillains in the Iron Man comic books — and introduces several comic characters to the big screen for the first time, among them brilliant biologist Dr. Maya Hansen (played by Rebecca Hall) and Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce), the founder of the brain-trust organization AIM. “Iron Man 3″ is directed by Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”), who takes the reins from “Iron Man” […]

In the upcoming “Iron Man 3,” a sinister villain known as the Mandarin is looking to destroy Tony Stark’s world. But Ben Kingsley’s bad guy isn’t the only one out to sabotage the billionaire playboy and genius inventor. The film’s producer and Marvel’s chief movie architect Kevin Feige is in on the plan too. “We wanted to take Tony to a place that he hadn’t been since the first half of the first ‘Iron Man’ film, which is, essentially, by himself without his money, without his toys, without his gadgets, with just his mind, his intellect,” Feige said. “We wanted to do that in a big climactic fashion by literally taking away everything that is near and dear to him, as symbolized in that mansion crumbling down into the Pacific.” That sequence, of Stark’s hillside Malibu estate collapsing into the […]

Iron Man is getting the Lego treatment, the latest in a long line of Lego greats including Batman, Aragorn and Harry Potter. To celebrate Tony Stark’s new Lego mini-figure replicas, Marvel released Lego versions of two theatrical posters for the upcoming “Iron Man 3.” What can we say? Lego Tony Stark is adorable. Check out the Lego posters and “Iron Man 3″ posters in the gallery above. “Iron Man 3″ hits theaters May 3 following Robert Downey Jr.’s worldwide tour to South Korea, Beijing, Moscow, Munich, Paris and London promoting the film. The tour concludes with the Hollywood premiere of the movie on April 24. And now we know Iron Man’s address — it’s 10880 Malibu Point, Malibu, Calif., 90265. That intriguing detail comes courtesy of a new clip just released from “Iron Man 3,” which sees Tony Stark standing up in a brash, public way (naturally) to the Mandarin, telling the villain, played by Ben Kingsley, in no uncertain terms, “I’m not afraid of you,” in front of a pack of TV cameras and photographers. “I’ve decided that you just died, pal,” Stark says. “I’m going to come get the body.” And just like that, he pulls away in his white Audi. Directed by Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”), “Iron Man 3,” due in theaters May 3, marks the first post-”Avengers” Marvel movie to see release in theaters, and the film opens with Stark struggling a bit to reintegrate into his posh Malibu […]

“Iron Man 3″ won’t open in U.S. theaters until May 3, but leading man Robert Downey Jr., along with some of the film’s other stars, already have embarked on a massive world tour to help promote the Marvel blockbuster. The tour kicked off Thursday in South Korea, with Downey celebrating his 48th birthday in spectacular Tony Stark fashion — tuxedo, throngs of admirers, you name it. On Saturday the actor will appear at an event in Beijing, and on April 10 he and Ben Kingsley, who plays the villainous Mandarin in the film, will meet the press (and fans) in Moscow. Following stops slated in Munich, Paris and London, the travel itinerary concludes with the Los Angeles premiere of the movie at the El Capitan in Hollywood on April 24, and a New York date for Downey April 29. Directed […]

“You’re not a man, you’re nothing more than a maniac.” Those are some harsh words Tony Stark has for the Mandarin, but judging from the new TV spot touting Marvel’s upcoming blockbuster, “Iron Man 3,” due out May 3, there’s no love lost between the billionaire genius and his latest arch-nemesis. The clip features rapid-fire glimpses of some footage we’ve seen before, including the spectacular destruction of Stark’s cliffside home and the hero, played by Robert Downey Jr. lying in the snow, looking battered in his signature metal suit. But the spot really emphasizes the adversarial relationship between the characters that will drive much of the narrative of the film, directed by Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”). In the comics, the Mandarin was an exiled orphan who discovered a crashed spaceship. He mastered the alien science he found there […]

When Oscar winner Ben Kingsley signed on to play the Mandarin in “Iron Man 3,” he joined a legion of super actors who have brought serious chops to villainous roles in comic-book movies throughout the years. In the “Iron Man 3” trailers, Kingsley’s Mandarin is calm and possessed, like a Zen master of evil, as he orchestrates the destruction of Tony Stark’s world. “Ladies, children, sheep,” he says in the first “Iron Man 3″ trailer in a menacing intonation all his own. “Some people call me a terrorist. I consider myself a teacher. Lesson No. 1: Heroes. There is no such thing.” Iron Man Quiz: How well do you know Tony Stark? But, whether Kingsley’s performance will live up to the best supervillain turns in cinema history remains to be seen. Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman in “Batman Returns,” for example, might […]

But how much do you actually know about the billionaire playboy super hero? “Iron Man 3″ opens in theaters on May 3, and we thought now might be a good time to test your Tony Stark/Iron Man knowledge. PHOTOS: ‘Iron Man 3′: Trajectory of a superhero Below you’ll find questions about Pepper Potts’ real name, how Tony Stark’s parents actually died and where the L.A. based super hero is most likely to nurse a hangover after a night of serious drinking. Iron Man long sat near the heart of the Marvel Universe, leading his own series and often occupying a prominent spot among the Avengers. But ever since Tony Stark’s 2008 film debut, featuring Robert Downey Jr. in the title role, the character’s popularity has skyrocketed to the top of the superhero echelon. Ignoring “The Avengers,” which featured Iron Man, only Batman and Spider-Man have topped Iron Man’s popularity at the box office. Each “Iron Man” film has grossed more than $300 million domestically, leading Marvel’s single-character cinematic efforts. Not bad for a character that was once more commonly known for the seminal “Demon in a Bottle” storyline, in which Stark confronted alcoholism, and the Black Sabbath song “Iron Man.” Iron Man’s first appearance came in March 1963 in “Tales of Suspense” No. 39. Created by Marvel’s luminaries of the time […]
