Andrew Garfield on Spidey sequel: ‘This is the Spider-Man I want to be’

Andrew Garfield, the star of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” took one glance around the Bel-Air eatery and made a quick assessment: “Peter Parker wouldn’t be allowed in here,” the 30-year-old said with a nod. It is nearly impossible to picture the brainy, blue-collar kid from Forest Hills, Queens, enjoying fine California cuisine on an upscale restaurant patio on an April afternoon, and even Garfield, the 30-year-old actor who has lived inside Peter Parker’s skin for the last few years, seems a little too low-key and comfortably unkempt to belong to the class of diners soaking up the mild sunshine. But Peter’s outsider quality and the transformational aspect of his accidental encounter with a scientifically enhanced arachnid was one thing that so deeply appealed to Garfield long before he ever starred in a blockbuster or had even settled on an acting […]

Due in theaters May 2, the new $200-million production — directed like its predecessor, 2012′s “The Amazing Spider-Man,” by Marc Webb — Garfield’s wall-crawling hero is beset by numerous threats, chief among them Foxx’s Electro, an incandescent-blue bad guy who wields the ability to control the power grid. Yet even as he must try to contain the damage Electro inflicts across Manhattan, Peter Parker struggles to learn more about his own past, including his father’s inexplicable demise. He’s also wrestling with his relationship with Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), attempting to balance his feelings for her with his desire to keep her out of harm’s way. ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2′ director Marc Webb talks ‘emotional’ sequel

Inside a darkened sound mixing stage on Sony’s Culver City lot, Marc Webb, the director of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” labored to balance a sonic cocktail of music, sound effects, background noise and dialogue while, across a massive screen at the front of the room, Electro, the luminescent blue villain played by Jamie Foxx, wreaked havoc on a busy night in Times Square. “Does it sound sloppy there?” Webb asked editor Pietro Scalia. “How far down can we drop the sound effects and how long can we keep them out? It just feels really busy.” With just two days left to finalize the movie’s soundtrack, the pair worked alongside a team of roughly a dozen technicians to refine a key sequence in what is expected to be one of the biggest movies of the summer. A reverb effect was added […]

‘Amazing Spider-Man 3′: Marc Webb to direct next Spidey sequel

Filmmaker Marc Webb appears set to direct “The Amazing Spider-Man 3.” Word came Tuesday that the director responsible for both 2012′s “The Amazing Spider-Man” and this May’s coming follow-up, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” is in final negotiations with Sony to complete the movie trilogy starring Andrew Garfield as the heroic Peter Parker. Webb came to the franchise as a somewhat unlikely choice — the respected indie director was previously best known for the Los Angeles-set “(500) Days of Summer,” starring Joseph-Gordon Levitt and Zooey Deschanel. But his original Marvel adaptation, which rebooted the franchise that Sam Raimi had so successfully helmed roughly a decade earlier, turned out to be a blockbuster hit that took in upward of $262 million at the domestic box office, and also earned critical praise, thanks in part to the winning chemistry between English actor Garfield […]

‘Amazing Spider-Man 2′ trailer: Jamie Foxx’s Electro shocks New York

Jamie Foxx’s Electro takes center stage  in a new international trailer for director Marc Webb’s superhero sequel, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” Electro greeted comic book readers in 1964 as an electrician named Max Dillon who gains the ability to generate and control electricity after he’s struck by lightning while repairing a power line. But in the upcoming film, Foxx’s Dillon is a meek Oscorp employee who becomes obsessed with Spider-Man after the hero saves his life — and he uses his high-voltage powers to wreak havoc on the streets of New York. “The Amazing Spider-Man” star Andrew Garfield reprises his role as teenage hero Peter Parker, and the film’s cast also includes Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Paul Giamatti as the Rhino, Dane DeHaan (“Chronicle”) as rich boy Harry Osborn, son of Chris Cooper’s Norman Osborn, who, fans will remember, […]
