Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist are coming to the small screen thanks to a new deal between Marvel TV and Netflix. The on-demand and mail-in video provider has committed to at least four 13-episode live-action series based on the Marvel characters, culminating in a mini-series event based on Marvel’s “The Defenders,” Marvel TV announced today. The announcement follows Marvel TV’s first major foray into live-action television with this fall’s debut of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” The blind superhero Daredevil, of course, has seen his share of screen time thanks to the Ben Affleck-starring “Daredevil.” Luke Cage is a fighter with super-strength and near-impervious skin. Jessica Jones is a former superheroine who has her own private eye firm and a tempestuous relationship with Luke Cage. And Iron Fist is a disciplined martial artist who happens to be Luke […]

Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Natalie Portman arrived in grand style Tuesday to celebrate the world premiere of Marvel’s newest superhero sequel, “Thor: The Dark World.” The film, directed by Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones”), arrives in U.S. theaters Nov. 8, but is set to open a week earlier in the U.K. The cast was all smiles as they walked the red carpet. The movie sees Hemsworth’s brawny superhero form an uneasy alliance with his untrustworthy brother Loki (Hiddleston) in order to save the Nine Realms from a devious plan hatched by the Dark Elf Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) that poses great danger to the universe, and especially to Thor’s lady love, Jane Foster (Portman). On the set of the film last year, Marvel movie chief Kevin Feige said the new film took a more practical approach with the fight scenes […]

This morning’s news that James Spader will play the titular villain in Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” has the Internet abuzz, with many Marvel fans applauding the casting decision. One of the Emmy-winning actor’s biggest endorsements comes from Tom Hiddleston, whose villainous shoes he will have to fill. Hiddleston portrayed Loki, the power-hungry demigod who faced off against Marvel’s mightiest in “The Avengers” last year. He also played Loki opposite Chris Hemsworth in 2011’s “Thor” and is reprising the role for this year’s sequel “Thor: The Dark World.” On Thursday, Hiddleston tweeted encouragement to Spader, one Marvel villain to another. Go on, James Spader. Go get 'em. @Avengers #AgeOfUltron — Tom Hiddleston (@twhiddleston) August 29, 2013 “Age of Ultron” director Joss Whedon also tweeted support for Spader, teasing fans who had referenced a Spader-Robert Downey Jr. reunion — the pair […]

The new trailer for “Thor: The Dark World” has just been released, suggesting an ominous, epic scale for the sequel, which sees Chris Hemsworth’s Viking god turning to his wicked brother Loki for help against a great evil — namely, the dark elf Malekith, portrayed by Christopher Eccleston, and Algrim (also known as Kurse), played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. It’s Tom Hiddleston as Loki who can be heard first in the latest clip for the new film, directed by “Game of Thrones” veteran Alan Taylor, chiding Thor from his cell in Asgard, where he’s been locked away after the events in “The Avengers.” “After all this time, now you come to visit me, brother. Why? To mock?” Loki asks. “I need your help. And I wish I could trust you,” Thor answers. “If you did, you’d be the fool I always took […]

English actor Tom Hiddleston blew the Hall H audience away Saturday at San Diego’s Comic-Con International when he took the stage at the Marvel panel as his character Loki, who not only has a prominent part to play in the upcoming “Thor: The Dark World” but also earned his title as the god of mischief in Kenneth Branagh’s “Thor” and Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers.” On Sunday, just before a signing event with his “Thor: The Dark World” director Alan Taylor, Hiddleston, clad in a crisp white dress shirt and without his wig, sat down with Hero Complex to reveal just how he managed to pull off one of the most exciting surprise appearances at Comic-Con 2013. HC: How much fun was that? TH: It was fun. It was absolutely amazing. It’s only my second time in Hall H. The last […]

Steve Rogers won’t be back on the big screen until next year, when Marvel releases “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” but a tiny, blocky Cap is set to feature prominently in one of the year’s most anticipated video games. The patriotic hero will be among the 100 playable characters featured in “Lego Marvel Super Heroes” — an impressive all-star ensemble that includes Wolverine, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Silver Surfer, with the mercenary Deadpool dropping in and out to offer commentary on the action. In the game, due on all major platforms in October, the Marvel team is called upon to save the world from new threats from Loki and the hunger of Galactus, and to find the powerful pieces of a shattered Silver Surfer surfboard. Cosmic cubes, Asgard and the Daily Bugle all make appearances, as does a […]

How could Loki, a villain who was defeated by a single superhero in “Thor,” become a believably formidable foe for a team of six superheroes backed by S.H.I.E.L.D.? The question plagued Loki actor Tom Hiddleston, 31, when he was preparing for “The Avengers,” out on Blu-ray and DVD Tuesday. “That was what I was so terrified I would fail to do,” Hiddleston said. “It’s a big old movie.” Big it certainly is. “The Avengers,” which cost $220 million to make, was a popular and critical hit, earning more than $1.5 billion worldwide and making director Joss Whedon a household name. The film unites a team of A-list muscle men, many of them already stars of their own Marvel movies, including Robert Downey Jr. (“Iron Man” and “Iron Man 2”), Chris Evans (“Captain America”), Chris Hemsworth (“Thor”), Black Widow actress Scarlett […]
