‘Looney Tunes’: Mel Blanc’s voice will return to theaters with 3-D cartoons

“Th-th-th-that’s all folks?” Well, maybe not … Lee Margulies reports at 24 Frames that in the near future Warner Bros. will use today’s technology to return in a big way to the studio’s cartoon past. An excerpt from his post: Warner Bros. is producing three new 3-D cartoons with its classic Looney Tunes characters to show in theaters before the studio’s movies — two of them featuring the talent of legendary voice actor Mel Blanc, who has been dead for nearly 22 years. Blanc, who for decades provided the voices of such beloved characters as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Sylvester the Cat and Tweety Bird, will be heard again via two recordings he made in the 1950s, the studio said Wednesday. ‘Looney Tunes’ revival? Bugs and Daffy go ‘Seinfeld’ route

For cartoon fans of a certain age, Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies are sacred brand names and the news of a revival and 21st century makeover sounds like an emotional anvil dropping down on their collective heads and hearts. But here’s a funny twist — the people behind the show admit the idea didn’t sound so great to them, either. “Come up with a sitcom out of Looney Tunes? It sounds kind of terrible,” says Tony Cervone, producer of of “The Looney Tunes Show,” which premieres tonight on Cartoon Network.
