‘Star Trek’: Nicholas Meyer explains his Roddenberry regret

If Nicholas Meyer could do it all over again, he would be kinder to a dying Gene Roddenberry, he told the audience after Friday night’s screening of “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” at the Hero Complex Film Festival. “There are moments in one’s life where you look back and you say, ‘Well, I wish I had done this differently,” Meyer told a full room at the Chinese Six theater in Hollywood. Meyer, who directed “Khan” as well as “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country,” described one such moment. ‘Khan’ director Nicholas Meyer, new ‘Star Trek’ team to share stage at Hero Complex Film Festival

The past and the future of Starfleet comes to the 2011 Hero Complex Film Festival on June 10 as Nicholas Meyer, the director of 1982 fan favorite “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,” and the creative team of the 2009 franchise-reviving “Star Trek,” will share the same stage during a double-feature screening of their films. Meyer, viewed as one of the true integrity figures in the long cinematic journey of the starship Enterprise, will bring a director’s cut of the 1982 movie that many view as the most satisfying voyage of Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock and the rest of the iconic crew. Then, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof, three key members of the “Star Trek” creative team (as well as top-tier writers and producers whose collective credits include “Lost,” “Transformers,” “Fringe” and “Cowboys & Aliens“) will take the stage together and talk about the success of ...
