Auditioning with director Michael Bay for the role of Optimus Prime in 2007’s live-action movie adaptation of the beloved animated series “Transformers,” Canadian-born vocal artist Peter Cullen was aware that his previous accomplishments hardly guaranteed his place in a big-budget Hollywood movie. “It’s kind of surreal to audition for a character that you basically created,” said Cullen, who originated the Autobot’s stentorian voice in TV performances from 1984 to ‘87. “But I didn’t expect Michael to know what I knew about ‘Transformers.’ I was ready for anything.” Bay, of course, appointed him Optimus in that blockbuster film and two other hit “Transformers” sequels that have combined to gross a staggering $2.7 billion worldwide. Come June 27, Cullen will return in his role as fandom’s favorite alien-born Kenworth K100 truck cum sentient battle-bot in “Transformers: Age of Extinction.” In this go-round, […]

The new trailer for “Transformers: Age of Extinction” has debuted with all the explosive action and imagery fans have come to expect from popcorn entertainment master Michael Bay. Written by Ehren Kruger and directed by Bay, the new film sees Mark Wahlberg, playing a mechanic named Cade Yeagar, join the series about warring tribes of alien robots with a propensity for causing massive destruction here on planet Earth. “Age of Extinction,” which hits theaters June 27, arrives as a kind of reboot for the franchise, which has grossed $2.7 billion worldwide, and is the first entry in an intended new trilogy of “Transformers” films. Wahlberg takes over as protagonist from Shia LaBeouf, who departed as the series’ primary human foil, Sam Witwicky, after “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” in 2011. Never mind that Wahlberg — as a down-on-his-luck auto mechanic […]

A new poster has arrived for “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” the fourth franchise installment from blockbuster extremist Michael Bay, and it features Autobot leader Optimus Prime holding an enormous dagger. The heroic battle-bot looks ready to spar with any alien cyborg who gets out of line. “Age of Extinction,” which hits theaters June 27, will be a kind of reboot for the franchise, which has grossed $2.7 billion worldwide. Though Bay said in 2012 that “Age of Extinction” would be his last foray in the series, the upcoming Paramount vehicle is now viewed as the first entry in an intended new trilogy of “Transformers” films. A new trailer for the film is due to arrive at midnight — look for the Dinobots, the prehistoric ragers who are new to the “Transformers” cinematic landscape. “Age of Extinction” also ushers in a […]

Before Mark Wahlberg ever attempted to test his mettle vis-a-vis giant metamorphosing robots from outer space, and before he befriended a heroic battle-bot named Optimus Prime on-screen, the actor prepared for his latest part with an unlikely foil: a talking teddy bear with an outsize taste for prostitutes and cocaine. Which is to say that before Wahlberg signed on to appear in Paramount Pictures’ mega-budget sci-fi thriller “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” he got a first taste of acting opposite computer-generated imagery in a certain raunch-comedy that became 2012’s surprise breakout hit. “‘Ted’ was definitely a good warmup,” Wahlberg said of the movie in which he plays a Boston bro who co-habitates with his hard-swearing, magically alive plush toy. “With ‘Ted,’ it was a more intimate setting. But this movie is much bigger and more intense. You’ve got eight Autobots talking […]

“Game of Thrones” heroine Daenerys Targaryen takes the spotlight on the cover of the latest issue of the Hero Complex print magazine, available now. In a detailed interview, actress Emilia Clarke reveals how her approach to playing the Mother of Dragons on the hit HBO fantasy has evolved over the lifespan of the sprawling series, based on the bestselling novels of George R.R. Martin. “I’ve been growing with her, which is the exciting part,” Clarke said. “Man, she’s got more strength than I have, that’s for sure. Getting to be with her throughout this growth process is so exciting as an actor. While she’s pushing herself, I get to push myself and my acting every season.” (Click through the gallery above for a look at Season 4 of “Game of Thrones.”) The issue also features new interviews with “Godzilla” director […]

Oscar-nominated actor Mark Wahlberg is front and center in a new poster for Michael Bay’s “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” due in theaters June 27. Written by Ehren Kruger and directed by Bay, the film sees Wahlberg join the series about warring tribes of alien robots with a propensity for causing massive destruction here on planet Earth. Fans got a detailed look at the film during last month’s Super Bowl, and the scope of the imagery in the teaser suggests that the master of explosive popcorn entertainment might be looking to outdo himself with the fourth installment in the franchise. Last May, Paramount released images featuring some of the updated character designs from the movie, including shots of an upgraded Optimus Prime and two new Autobots that will battle Decepticons right alongside him. The photos, taken on the Monument Valley, Utah, set […]
