Much has been made of Batman in marking his 75th anniversary, and the comic-book talents gathered Saturday at Long Beach Comic Con for a panel celebrating the Dark Knight had plenty to say about various versions of him – but they also toasted the heroes he’s inspired. A highly anticipated new take on Batgirl, Bruce Wayne’s cousin Kate Kane (a.k.a. Batwoman) and a couple of different Robins all came up in the conversation among writers and artists who have told – or will tell – those characters’ tales, as did opinions about Ben Affleck’s casting as Batman, choice Bat-obscurities, fan passions and possible future projects. Kevin Smith, Ralph Garman dive into ‘Batman ’66 Meets the Green Hornet’

Long before superhero teams became a box-office staple, there was Batman and the Green Hornet. When the two heroes, along with their respective sidekicks Robin and Kato, teamed up in the second season of the “Batman” television series in the two-part episode “A Piece of the Action” and “Batman’s Satisfaction,” it marked the first time two masked avengers had joined forces on screen. To commemorate the landmark moment, DC is launching “Batman ’66 Meets the Green Hornet,” a 12-part series premiering in digital form this week. Batman super-fans director Kevin Smith and Ralph Garman (“The Joe Schmo Show,” “Family Guy”) were tapped to pen the tale. Batman’s 75th anniversary celebration kicked into high gear at WonderCon in Anaheim last weekend with an all-star panel that included superstar artist and DC Comics co-publisher Jim Lee, definitive Dark Knight voice actor Kevin Conroy and voice actor/writer/Adam-West-”Batman” super-fan Ralph Garman.
