Comic-Con 2011: ‘Voltron’ to become live-action movie

There doesn’t seem to be a more appropriate time to announce a “Voltron” live-action movie than Comic-Con 2011. The 1980s cult-classic television show still maintains a presence at the annual showcase of all things geek, even though the original series, based on two Japanese cartoons, only ran for two years on U.S. television. As such, Relativity Media, the studio behind the film adaptation, chose the event to alert the press to its plans. In the show, “Voltron: Defender of the Universe,” five young warriors are responsible for the future of the galaxy when they become pilots of a battalion of ultra high-tech Robot Lions, powerful vessels with the ability to join together to form a fearsome mega-weapon known as “Voltron.” In collaboration with Atlas Entertainment, the studio will adapt a live-action film based on the show.
