Scream Awards: ‘Rocky and Bullwinkle’s’ June Foray voices her joy

Hokey smoke! June Foray, who supplied the voices of Rocky the Flying Squirrel, Natasha Fatale and Nell Fenwick on the classic “The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show,” is set to receive the Comic-Con Icon Award at the 2011 Scream Awards, which will be taped Saturday evening at Universal Studios and will premiere Tuesday at 9 p.m. on Spike TV. The Scream Awards — which honor all things sci-fi, fantasy, horror and comic books – will also present special awards to the “Harry Potter” films, Robert Downey Jr., Nicolas Cage and Paul Reubens. Foray’s career has spanned radio, theatrical shorts, feature films, albums, video games, talking dolls and TV. ‘Harry Potter,’ ‘X-Men: First Class’ lead Scream Awards

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2″ and “X-Men: First Class” lead the way with 14 nominations each for Spike TV’s Scream Awards 2011, the televised trophy franchise that has become the sci-fi, horror and fantasy universe’s equivalent of the MTV Video Music Awards. The sixth annual Scream Awards will be taped Oct. 15 on the Universal lot and then air as a two-hour show on Oct. 18. Other notable nominees include “Captain America: The First Avenger” (11 nominations), “Thor” (nine), “True Blood” (seven), ”Game of Thrones (seven) and AMC’s “The Walking Dead” (six). Voting is done by fans who visit the Spike TV website. There are a half-dozen actors who might be crowned as the “King of Sci-Fi Films,” but a few of them, like Harrison Ford of “Star Wars” and “Blade Runner” fame, might run screaming from the genre’s throne room. There is only one true and rightful queen, however, and on Sunday night she emerged from a giant steaming alien egg at the Greek Theatre to warmly greet thousands of her adoring subjects. “I do love science fiction and the roles it presents for women,” Weaver said not long before walking out on stage at the Scream 2010 Awards, which air Tuesday on Spike TV and represent pop culture’s surging Comic-Con energy the same way the MTV Video Music Awards keyed to the shifting dynamics of the 1980s.  The sold-out crowd at the Greek cheered through a long rainy night – zombie make-up and lingerie, by the way, produce unpredictable ...
