Exclusive first look: ‘Sonic Boom’ comic takes a humorous spin

Sonic the Hedgehog is speeding back into pop culture with an upcoming film, a TV series and now a new comic book series. The first pages of “Sonic Boom” are being unveiled at New York Comic Con this week, but Hero Complex readers get an early sneak peek. Check out the preview pages in the gallery above. “Sonic Boom,” by writer Ian Flynn (“Mega Man,” “Sonic Universe”) with art by Evan Stanley, Rick Bryant, Jack Morelli and Matt Herms, features new character designs for the blue speedster and his zany friends, as well as several new characters, such as Sticks the Badger. ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’: Sony plans new movie for popular game character

Sonic the Hedgehog is headed to the big screen. Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marza Animation Planet announced Tuesday that the popular video game character will star in a hybrid computer-animated/live-action feature, produced by Neal H. Moritz through his Original Film banner and Marza’s Takeshi Ito and Mie Onishi. Evan Susser and Van Robichaux, alumni of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre who are also currently writing a live-action version of “The Jetsons,” will pen the script. No director has been named. Launched by SEGA (Marza’s parent company) in 1991, the Sonic franchise has sold more than 140 million games, with the irascible blue speedster also headlining multiple spinoffs, including several animated television series.
