‘Star Wars’ video shows off Millennium Falcon with a Bat-surprise

(Bad Robot)
The Batmobile hitches a ride with the Millennium Falcon in a new video released by “Star Wars: Episode VII” director J.J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot. The 36-second clip was posted quietly to YouTube Thursday morning under the title “Hunka Junk” — a nice nod to Lando Calrissian. The video pans across Han Solo’s iconic space freighter before ending with a shot of the “Dark Knight” trilogy’s Batmobile tumbler clinging to the Falcon’s underside. The genre mashup is the latest jab in an online battle between Abrams and “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice” director Zack Snyder, who instigated the back-and-forth by tweeting an image of “Man of Steel” star Henry Cavill dressed in Jedi robes and wielding a light saber. #SuperJedi — ZackSnyder (@ZackSnyder) July 24, 2014 Last month, Bad Robot responded with an image of C-3PO donning Batman’s […]

‘Star Wars: Episode VII': J.J. Abrams reveals X-wing fighter in new video

Want to take a spin in a battle-scarred X-wing starfighter? In his new video promoting Star Wars: A Force for Change, the charitable project benefiting UNICEF and offering a lucky fan a chance to appear in the upcoming “Star Wars: Episode VII,” director J.J. Abrams doesn’t offer the winner a ride in the X-wing, per se, but hey, it can’t hurt to dream big, right? The video, shot from the Pinewood Studios set in London, shows Abrams standing next to the single-passenger spacecraft, coated in planetary dust. Early speculation from fans online initially labeled the needle-nosed fighter as a Z-95 Headhunter, the clone starfighter first mentioned  in the “Star Wars” book “Han Solo at Star’s End” from 1979, but Lucasfilm verified via Twitter that it is indeed an X-wing. @CDCanimation It is in fact an Episode VII X-wing, not a Z-95. — Star Wars (@starwars) July 21, 2014 […]

“Game of Thrones” scribe George R.R. Martin, “24” star Kiefer Sutherland and “special surprise guests” from the cast of 1985’s “The Goonies” mark some of the highlights of Comic-Con 2014’s Thursday programming, which was officially released earlier today. Coming on the heels of this morning’s news that “Game of Thrones” is poised to to take the Emmys by storm with a pack-leading 19 nominations,  recent Twitter convert George R.R. Martin, on whose novels the lavish HBO fantasy is based, will no doubt be in high spirits when he sits down with moderator William Christensen (Avatar Press publisher) to discuss “Thrones” (for which he’s scripted several episodes), other works and his newest project, the “In the House of the Worm” comic book series. The conversation will be held in the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel from 4 […]

‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ announces two cast members, two-week hiatus

“Star Wars: Episode VII” has added two newcomers to its cast, and will take a two-week hiatus in August because of Harrison Ford’s recovery from a leg injury, the production announced Sunday. Lucasfilm and Disney discovered American actress Crystal Clarke and British actor Pip Andersen via a casting call last year that drew a total of more than 60,000 applicants from in-person auditions and online submissions. In addition to J.J. Abrams’ new “Star Wars” film, Clarke will be seen in next year’s fantasy “The Moon and the Sun,” starring Pierce Brosnan as an immortality-seeking King Louis XIV. Possibly part of Andersen’s appeal: No stunt double necessary. He’s a parkour specialist. “The ‘Star Wars’ universe has always been about discovering and nurturing young talent, and in casting ‘Episode VII’ we wanted to remain absolutely faithful to this tradition,” producer and Lucasfilm […]

‘Star Wars': Harrison Ford’s leg was broken in filming mishap

Contrary to the initial reports that he had suffered a broken ankle on the set of “Star Wars: Episode VII” last week, Harrison Ford actually broke his leg in the accident. “Harrison Ford’s left leg was broken in an accident. His surgery was successful and he will begin rehab shortly. He’s doing well and looks forward to returning to work,” Ford’s publicist said in a statement. PHOTOS: Injuries on the set There is no word yet on whether this will affect the initial timetable of the eight weeks Ford was expected to miss from shooting while he recovers. Reprising his role as the dashing antihero Han Solo in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming film, Ford was injured in a mishap with the door of the Millennium Falcon, Solo’s iconic spaceship, last week and taken to a local hospital. Filming is to continue […]

‘Star Wars': Harrison Ford could miss eight weeks with broken ankle

Abrams’ upcoming film, was taken to a local hospital last week to treat his injury, which was caused by the door of the Millennium Falcon, Solo’s iconic spaceship. ‘Star Wars: Episode VII': J.J. Abrams on Millennium Falcon leaks

Portrait of J.J. Abrams
When Han Solo returns to the silver screen in “Star Wars: Episode VII” late next year, it looks as if he’ll still be able to make the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs. Responding to a series of leaked photos from the set of the next installment in the “Star Wars” series, director J.J. Abrams might have confirmed the appearance of the Millennium Falcon in the 2015 blockbuster. “I wish people would stop leaking photos from Episode VII and making ridiculous claims that the Millennium Falcon is in the movie,” tweeted Abrams from the account for his “Bad Robot” film company on Wednesday morning. — Bad Robot (@bad_robot) June 4, 2014 Except the note was sitting atop the holo-chess board from the inside of the Falcon. The game board is the site of a near-clash between Chewbacca and R2-D2 in […]

‘Star Wars': Josh Trank set to direct standalone film

Josh Trank is set to join “Godzilla” filmmaker Gareth Edwards as a new recruit to the “Star Wars” universe. Trank will direct one of the multiple standalone movies that Disney plans to release that will explore the world created by George Lucas outside of the primary episodes of the franchise. Lucasfilm announced Trank’s selection Wednesday, but revealed no details about the film’s story line. It’s been a busy time in the “Star Wars” universe. Earlier last month, Edwards, who enjoyed a blockbuster success with his big-budget “Godzilla” reboot, was tapped to helm another of the “Star Wars” standalone projects, which will be written by Gary Witta (“The Book of Eli,” Telltale Games’ adaptation of “The Walking Dead”). Also in May, J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: Episode VII,” scheduled to arrive in theaters Dec. 18, 2015, officially went into production, with a cast […]

‘Star Wars: Episode VII': Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie to star

Two women have joined the cast of "Star Wars: Episode VII": Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o, left, and Gwendoline Christie.
“Star Wars: Episode VII” has added two powerful actresses to its ensemble. Lupita Nyong’o, who earned a best supporting actress Academy Award earlier this year for her heart-wrenching turn in “12 Years a Slave,” is joining the film’s cast, as is Gwendoline Christie, best known as the towering fighter known as Brienne of Tarth on HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” The highly anticipated effort from director J.J. Abrams, which started production last month, already boasts a number of buzz-worthy actors including Adam Driver, best known for his role in HBO’s “Girls,” and Oscar Isaac, who won considerable acclaim for his turn in the Coen brothers’ “Inside Llewyn Davis,” as well as John Boyega, known for his work in the film “Attack the Block,” and newcomer Daisy Ridley.   #dayone — Bad Robot (@bad_robot) May 16, 2014   Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson, performance capture expert Andy Serkis and venerable […]
