‘Jupiter Ascending': Mila Kunis stands to inherit Earth in new trailer

Mila Kunis stars as Jupiter Jones in "Jupiter Ascending." (Warner Bros.)
A new trailer for “Jupiter Ascending” offers a glimpse of what promises to be a blockbuster sci-fi spectacle, with stars Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum simmering at its center. The film, the latest venture from Andy and Lana Wachowski’s (“The Matrix” trilogy), centers on Chicago house cleaner Jupiter Jones (Kunis), who discovers she is destined for more after she is tracked down by genetically engineered hunter-turned-protector Caine (Tatum) and learns the truth about Earth’s origins. “You’ve been taught that the birthplace of the human race is Earth,” Sean Bean’s character Stinger tells her as the trailer opens. “But it’s not.” Instead, humans can trace their roots back to “one of the most powerful dynasties in the universe,” and Jupiter’s genetic markers place her next in line to inherit Earth. And the film above all else should create a vision of the future we either know that we don’t want, or know that we do. The […]

'Jupiter Ascending' trailer (featured image)
The first trailer has arrived for “Jupiter Ascending,” Andy and Lana Wachowski’s newest sci-fi venture, and the clip offers some of the same mix of futuristic spectacle and existential exploration that catapulted the duo to international acclaim with “The Matrix” nearly 15 years ago. Set for release next year, “Jupiter Ascending” stars Mila Kunis as Jupiter Jones, a young woman born on Earth whose “genetic signature” marks her as a target for the Queen of the Universe. Channing Tatum plays Caine, identified early in the trailer as a “perfect hunting machine,” who becomes Jupiter’s protector. Sean Bean and Eddie Redmayne also have featured roles. The film is the first from the Wachowskis after their audacious literary adaptation with Tom Tykwer, “Cloud Atlas,” which was based on the 2004 novel by David Mitchell and starred Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Jim […]
