While Peter Capaldi has already made his “Doctor Who” television debut as the Twelfth Doctor, he’ll be making his inaugural comic appearance this fall: Titan Comics has shared the upcoming covers that feature the latest Time Lord. As reported earlier this year, Titan Comics has taken over publishing rights to the series from IDW Comics, which had published “Doctor Who” tales in North America since 2008. In July, Titan will publish Tenth and Eleventh Doctor editions, with the Doctor as portrayed by David Tennant and Matt Smith, respectively, in the long-running science-fiction television series. “Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor” No. 1 will hit stores Oct. 1, with Capaldi on the regular cover, and will be penned by writer Robbie Morrison (“Drowntown,” “The Authority,” “ 2000AD,” “Nikolai Dante”) and artist Dave Taylor (“Batman: Death by Design,” “2000AD”). In 1982, French writers Jacques Lob and Benjamin Legrand, and artist Jean-Marc Rochette collaborated on “Le Transperceneige,” a science-fiction graphic novel about the last of humanity aboard a train, endlessly coursing across frozen wasteland. More than three decades later, the acclaimed comic is finally being released in English as “Snowpiercer,” and a film adaptation starring “Captain America” actor Chris Evans is due for U.S. release later this year. The Tenth and Eleventh Doctors are returning in new “Doctor Who” comic books from Titan Comics later this year. BBC and U.K. publisher Titan have teamed to release stand-alone adventures featuring the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors (portrayed by David Tennant and Matt Smith, respectively, in the long-running science-fiction television series). The Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) also will be featured after the new TV season kicks off later in 2014. The deal with Titan, which BBC announced Tuesday, marks a new home for “Doctor Who” comics, which have been published by IDW in North America since 2008.
