The new trailer for “Transformers: Age of Extinction” has debuted with all the explosive action and imagery fans have come to expect from popcorn entertainment master Michael Bay — and audiences excited for the arrival of the Dinobots on the big screen won’t be disappointed. Written by Ehren Kruger and directed by Bay, the new film sees Mark Wahlberg, playing a mechanic named Cade Yeagar, join the series about warring tribes of alien robots with a propensity for causing massive destruction here on planet Earth. The scope of the imagery in the clip suggests that Bay might be looking to outdo himself with the fourth installment in the franchise. Check it out below. In a 2012 interview with Hero Complex, Bay talked openly about his plans for a fourth “Transformers” movie, saying at the time that it “absolutely” will be […]

Fans got a detailed look at Michael Bay’s summer blockbuster “Transformers: Age of Extinction” during Sunday’s Super Bowl, and the scope of the imagery in the new teaser suggests that the master of explosive popcorn entertainment might be looking to outdo himself with the fourth installment in the franchise. This year’s Hasbro Transformers Comic-Con toys pay homage to the franchise’s 29-year history, and Hero Complex readers get a first look at them. The three special-edition Comic-Con toy sets run the gamut of the brand’s evolution. In preparation for the brand’s 30th anniversary, one of the sets pays tribute to Transformers: Generation 1 — the original toy line that launched in 1984. The Transformers Titan Guardians action figure set features five classic characters: Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave and Grimlock. “These are five of the greatest Transformers characters ever,” said Jerry Jivoin, Hasbro’s global brand marketing director for Transformers, in a statement. Jivoin said the figures feature the original G1 colors and sculpts, based on the 1980s designs. Another toy set — Shockwave’s Laboratory — finds inspiration from today’s popular animated series “Transformers: Prime – Beast Hunters” (currently airing on the Hub network) and […]

Optimus Prime is getting a makeover for “Transformers 4.” Looking to stoke fan excitement for the upcoming installment in the action movie franchise from director Michael Bay, Paramount has revealed a first look at an upgraded Optimus Prime and images of two new Autobots that will be battling Decepticons right alongside him. The photos, taken on the Monument Valley, Utah, set of the sequel, feature Optimus Prime as a customized Western Star truck, along with the new characters, a sleek Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse and a special race-inspired C7 Corvette Stingray. Not pictured is the film’s Oscar-nominated star Mark Walhberg, who most recently appeared in Bay’s “Pain & Gain,” about bodybuilders who run afoul of the law. Announcing Wahlberg’s casting in “Transformers 4″ this past November on his blog, Bay wrote, “Mark is awesome. An actor of his caliber is the perfect […]

Optimus has been damaged, alliances are shifting and the Autobots have been defeated as the final season of the Hub’s “Transformers Prime” kicks off March 22. The series even stretches its name out in the third season, adding “Beast Hunters” to the title, signifying a new “creative direction.” “The ‘Beast Hunters’ [title] plays to the toy line as well,” said the series’ producer Jeff Kline. “It’s also just a little bit of reminding people that we’re always doing something different.” Something different is apparently on the agenda for this last season. For Kline and the other producers, including Duane Capizzi (“The Batman,” “Superman: Doomsday”) and “Star Trek” stewards Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (who also guided “Fringe” and wrote the “Transformers” movie franchise), the Emmy-award winning show began as a different way to tell the story of an age-long battle […]

Shia LaBeouf appears to be taking his case to the people’s court — via Twitter. The “Transformers” star is using the social media platform to post a series of personal emails to reflect the “creative differences” that led him to bow out of the upcoming revival production of the play “Orphans,” as reported by our sister blog, Culture Monster. LaBeouf’s departure led to talk that he clashed with costar Alec Baldwin. But Thursday’s news cycle is all about LaBeouf’s take-no-prisoners approach: He is using the social media platform to tell his side of the story by posting what purports to be personal emails involving Baldwin; another costar, Tom Sturridge; and the play’s director. PS4: 10 things you must know What do you think about LaBeouf’s tactics? A smart way to get his point across? Do you think the email senders feel like their […]

In today’s edition of “Worst Kept Secrets,” Josh Duhamel and Fergie have confirmed they’re expecting their own little transformer. The “Transformers” star and the pop star have sidestepped rumors for weeks. But the Black Eyed Peas singer tweeted the following this morning, letting the world know that she is indeed pregnant: Josh & Me & BABY makes three!!! #mylovelybabybump instagram.com/p/V4enzQEDJs/ http://t.co/J7NUZczN— (@Fergie) February 18, 2013 Duhamel did his sharing on Facebook, posting the same photo mash-up of the couple as children. (They kinda look alike, no?) “DJesus Uncrossed”: Most controversial skit in SNL history? The confirmations were a rare glimpse into the personal lives of Duhamel, 40, and Fergie, 37, who zealously guard their privacy (well, as much as two widely recognized celebs can). Duhamel is riding high at the box office this week. He stars opposite Julianne Hough […]

The truth is still out there, and IDW is ready to search for it once more. San Diego-based IDW Publishing is adding “The X-Files” to its already extensive lineup of comics based on beloved movie and television properties — a list that includes such major titles as “Star Trek,” “Transformers,” “Doctor Who” and “True Blood.” The comic will pick up after the landmark sci-fi TV series and the two feature films chronicling the adventures of intrepid agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson). IDW will also reprint the “X-Files” comics published between 1995 and 2009. The title is one of many that IDW editor in chief Chris Ryall was excited to discuss looking at what’s ahead for his operation in 2013. Ryall, of course, is the author whose own Eisner Award-nominated series “Zombies vs. Robots” was optioned […]

Mark Walhberg, the Oscar-nominated actor recently feted for performances in “The Fighter” and “The Departed,” is getting back in the action movie game: Filmmaker Michael Bay announced Thursday that the actor will star in his upcoming fourth installment in the blockbuster “Transformers” franchise. It’s an interesting pivot for the actor, coming off a busy year that most recently saw him star opposite a foul-mouthed teddy bear in Seth MacFarlane’s raunchy R-rated comedy, “Ted.” Instead of a debauched stuffed animal, he’ll be facing off against some out-of-this-world metal mammoths. Writing on his blog, Bay said that he’d had such a great time working with Wahlberg on the film “Pain & Gain,” about a pair of bodybuilders who run afoul of the law, that he was excited to reunite with the Massachusetts native. “Mark is awesome,” Bay wrote. “An actor of his […]
