‘Justice League’: Who should join Superman, Batman in Zack Snyder film?

Warner Bros. confirmed earlier this week that “Man of Steel” filmmaker Zack Snyder will, in fact, unite the heroes of the Justice League for a feature film after his follow-up to the 2013 Superman movie arrives in theaters in 2016. The question is, which heroes will be featured in the cast? The collection of the World’s Greatest Superheros, originally known as the Justice Society of America, made their 1940 debut in “All Star Comics” No. 3. In 1960, the group was revived under the League moniker and received its own title, featuring the classic seven-member incarnation of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter. PHOTOS: Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” cast Since then, the group has had more than 100 members, including one-shot inclusions and heroes with multiple alter egos. When it comes to Snyder’s […]

Zack Snyder to direct ‘Justice League’ movie after ‘Man of Steel’ sequel

Zack Snyder is set to direct a “Justice League” movie for Warner Bros. Word arrived Sunday that the filmmaker will follow his upcoming sequel to “Man of Steel” with a film that will bring all the members of the Justice League together on screen. Speculation had been growing for some time that Warner Bros. was moving toward uniting the heroes on screen — Batman, as played by Ben Affleck, and Wonder Woman, as played by Israeli actress Gal Gadot, are already set to join Henry Cavill’s Superman in the “Man of Steel” sequel set for release May 6, 2016. That grouping seemed to pave the way for the entire group of DC good guys to band together on film. The story was first reported on the Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy blog, with Warner Bros. executive Greg Silverman saying that “‘Superman vs. Batman’ […]

Superman/Batman cast adds Holly Hunter, Tao Okamoto, Callan Mulvey

Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey and Tao Okamoto will star in Zack Snyder’s upcoming “Man of Steel” sequel, an as-yet-untitled Superman/Batman film. All three actors will play characters newly created for the film, Warner Bros. Pictures announced Thursday. The trio joins a cast that includes Henry Cavill’s Superman, Ben Affleck’s Batman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, as well as Jesse Eisenberg as the villainous Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons as Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth. (Click through the gallery above for a peek at some of the casting decisions so far.) POLL: Who should play Batman instead of Ben Affleck? Snyder has not released details for the newly created characters, but praised the actors. “Holly has always been one of my favorite actresses,” he said of the Oscar-winning actress in a press release. “She has immense talent and is always […]

‘300: Rise of an Empire’ director Noam Murro talks operatic approach

Noam Murro had one question when he was asked to direct the follow-up to 2007’s bloody swords-and-sandals action film “300”: How do you make a sequel to a movie in which everyone died? The answer, in short: You don’t. Zack Snyder’s “300” concluded with [spoiler alert!] Sparta’s King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and his few, proud soldiers being gloriously slain while making a heroic stand against the overwhelming forces of Persian god-king Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro). The new “300: Rise of an Empire” uses that Leonidas-vs.-Xerxes narrative as a crucial plot point. In essence, the new film wraps its story around the earlier movie’s action to function as something more like a companion piece than a reboot. “What do you call it? A prequel? A sequel?” says Murro, 52. “It’s an equal, hopefully. It’s a different perspective of the same time. Thematically, […]

Zack Snyder: ‘Man of Steel’ sequel explodes Superman, Batman universes

The untitled “Man of Steel” sequel hasn’t yet gone into production, and it’s already the most controversial movie in fandom. Chalk that up to director Zack Snyder’s somewhat unconventional casting choices. First, comics stalwarts expressed surprise and skepticism in August with the revelation that Ben Affleck would inherit the cape and cowl from actor Christian Bale, taking on the role of Batman opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman in Snyder’s much-anticipated superhero sequel, the follow-up to his 2013 blockbuster that grossed more than $668 million at the worldwide box office. Then came the announcement that Israeli actress Gal Gadot, best known for her work in the “Fast & Furious” films, would play Diana Prince/Wonder Woman in the movie, and the uproar started anew. Just last month, fresh fandemonium was heaped upon the movie with the announcement that boyish “Social Network” star Jesse […]

Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor: Twitter reacts to Batman/Superman casting

News that Jesse Eisenberg will play famous villain Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons will play Alfred Pennyworth in Zack Snyder’s untitled Batman/Superman sequel to 2012’s “Man of Steel” is fueling some fiery reactions on Twitter. The casting decisions, announced Monday, came despite rumors that “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston would play Superman’s arch-nemesis. Eisenberg and Irons will join Henry Cavill’s Superman, Ben Affleck’s Batman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, as well as several returning “Man of Steel” cast members. (Click through the gallery above for a peek at some of the casting decisions so far.) Eisenberg, of course, is best known for his roles in “Zombieland” and “The Social Network,” the latter of which earned him an Oscar nomination for his performance as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
