Marvel is spotlighting each of the oddball heroes from “Guardians of the Galaxy” in a newly released series of short videos promoting the upcoming space adventure movie. The film, due in theaters Aug. 1, is directed by James Gunn (“Super”) and based on the Marvel comic of the same name. Chris Pratt stars as the roguish antihero Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord, who steals a mysterious orb and consequently finds himself on the run from powerful villain Ronan (Lee Pace), whose evil plans threaten the universe. Quill is forced to team up with a ragtag squad of alien misfits to battle the cosmic threat. It’s a quirky concept (one of the characters is a furry creature named Rocket Raccoon, voiced by Bradley Cooper), and the film’s first trailer, released Tuesday, suggests the movie boasts its fair share of snark and humor in […]

The first official trailer for Marvel’s upcoming space adventure, “Guardians of the Galaxy,” debuted Tuesday night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and the clip delivers some spirited alien action, with exploding spaceships and muscled bad guys, not to mention a few purely comedic moments. The “Guardians of the Galaxy” are all lined up in the first official image to be released from Marvel’s 2014 cosmic adventure. “Guardians of the Galaxy,” directed by James Gunn and based on the Marvel comic series of the same name, follows roguish antihero Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), and his squad of aliens tasked with teaming up to battle intergalactic threats. Included in the group is the furry, fan-favorite character Rocket Raccoon, to be voiced by Bradley Cooper. Both Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon are featured in the new photo, along with Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and the sentient tree Groot, a CG character that Marvel has confirmed will be voiced by Vin Diesel, who openly discussed the role with Hero Complex back in August. In the film, Glenn Close (“Fatal Attraction,” “Mars […]

The highly anticipated sequel to J.J. Abrams’ 2009 reboot “Star Trek” opens in theaters tonight, but Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Leonard Nimoy and more “Star Trek Into Darkness” stars walked the silver carpet Tuesday evening for the film’s Hollywood premiere. The film follows Capt. James T. Kirk (Pine) and his Enterprise crew as they embark on a revenge-fueled manhunt to capture the man behind a terrorist attack on Starfleet. The search takes them to a war-zone world, putting the ship and the lives within it in danger and causing Kirk to question his abilities as captain. “I think a lot of maturing happens in this film for Kirk, for a man who thinks he knows everything and leads with his gut and leads with his heart, and is all kind of passion and heart,” Pine said during the film’s presentation […]

The “Star Trek” sequel is still way off in deep space – it won’t reach theaters until May 2013 — but there was a cosmic cast reunion Monday on the stretch of sidewalk in front of the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf over at the Sony lot in Culver City. Throughout the morning, the crew members of the Starship Enterprise were scheduled for fittings with the wardrobe department and the atmosphere was a bit like the first day of school with big grins, backslaps, hugs and handshakes. There was Simon Pegg (Scotty) and John Cho (Mr. Sulu) ducking into the coffee shop just before lunchtime and, on the patio out front, Bruce Greenwood (Capt. Christopher Pike) and cast newcomer Peter Weller discussing their golf swings and the enduring allure of John Le Carre novels. Pegg, with a toothy grin, stopped by Greenwood’s table to pay his respects: […]
