Comic-Con 2014: ‘Grimm’ panel focuses on weddings, honeymoons, more mystery
“Grimm” might not be the highest-profile supernatural series, but the show’s cast and creators were treated like royalty during a Ballroom 20 panel presentation at Comic-Con International on Saturday.
Producers Jim Kouf and David Greenwalt, director Norberto Barba and cast members Reggie Lee, Bitsie Tulloch, Sasha Roiz, Russell Hornsby, Claire Coffee, Bree Turner, Silas Weir Mitchell and David Giuntoli were on hand to discuss the series’ fourth season, which concluded with Turner’s Rosalee and Weir Mitchell’s Monroe, two different kinds of Wesen creatures, tying the knot, and Giuntoli’s Nick Burkhardt losing his powers.
At the outset, audience members were treated to a video of the show’s characters offering their congratulations, or just reactions, to Monroe’s and Rosalee’s wedding, hilariously in some cases. But most of the presentation involved a lively discussion of the series’ evolving narrative, moderated by The Times’ Mary McNamara.
Among the subjects addressed was Monroe’s and Rosalee’s honeymoon.
“We try. We try to have the honeymoon, but things are complicated in Portland these days,” Mitchell said. “Things are turned upside down.”
“I think the two had a quickie in the VW bus,” Turner said.
The wedding itself was an example of what Kouf described as the show’s creators writing themselves into a corner; another was the case of Nick losing his powers; a third, the introduction of the new Grimm, Trubel, who will return in Season 5.
“I just remember thinking that this season went from zombie apocalypse to wedding. One was not harder to do than the other, they were just different,” Barda said.
Greenwalt promised that the upcoming season will feature a number of new creatures, including one that is basically an octopus-headed man.
“In the first couple of episodes, there will be a character who steals your identity, but in a very disgusting way,” he said.
Other things to look forward to? Viewers will finally meet Captain Renard’s mother, and will learn how the captain survived his seemingly fatal ordeal; audiences also will learn the purpose of the mysterious keys that have been an underlying story line since the beginning of the show.
As to whether Wu will finally be allowed to be in on the secret, well, that’s still a mystery.
