“Sharknado 2: The Second One” may not officially touch down on the shoreline of New York until its official release date of July 30, but Comic-Con attendees looking to celebrate the highly anticipated sequel can attend a panel with the film’s stars.

Syfy announced its programing for the pop-culture exposition today, beginning with a panel featuring the stars of the follow-up to 2013’s shamelessly campy “Sharknado,” including returning headliners Ian Ziering (Fin Shepard) and Tara Reid (April Wexler), plus new-to-the-‘nado actors  Vivica A. Fox (Skye), Kari Wuhrer (Ellen Shepard Brody) and Judah Friedlander (Bryan) on Thursday, July 24. They’ll be joined by returning director Anthony C. Ferrante. The panel will run from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m.  in Room 6BCF of the San Diego Convention Center.

A new trailer for “Sharknado 2″ premiered this week. You can watch it below.

On Friday, the stars of Syfy’s newest show, “Dominion,” a supernatural angel/apocalypse drama only three episodes in, will be hosting a panel discussion and take fans behind the scenes of the fledgling show. Actors Chris Egan (Alex Lannon), Tom Wisdom (Archangel Michael), Roxanne McKee (Claire Riesen), Alan Dale (Gen. Edward Riesen), Anthony Stewart Head (David Whele) and executive producer Vaun Wilmott are slated to appear. The event will take place from 5:30-6:30 p.m.  in Room 6DE.

Then on Saturday, Syfy fans can binge on a triple-header of panel appearances.

First up is a panel with the stars of “Helix,” one of Syfy’s breakout hits this year, which features a team of scientists battling an outbreak that threatens to end civilization. The show, which ranked among the network’s highest-rated programs, was just renewed for a second season. The panel will include Kyra Zagorsky (Dr. Julia Walker), Mark Ghanimé (Maj. Sergio Balleseros), Jordan Hayes (Dr. Sarah Jordan), Neil Napier (Dr. Peter Farragut) and executive producers Ronald D. Moore and Steven Maeda. The event will take place from noon to 1 p.m. at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel’s Indigo Ballroom.

Immediately following, the cast of the newly returned “Defiance,” the aliens-and-humans-coexisting-in-a-future-Earth drama that just began its second season, will take the Indigo Ballroom stage. Actors Grant Bowler (Nolan), Julie Benz (Amanda Rosewater), Stephanie Leonidas (Irisa), Tony Curran (Datak Tarr), Jaime Murray (Stahma Tarr), Jesse Rath (Alak Tarr) and executive producer Kevin Murphy will show video and discuss the big changes ahead for Votan-human relations from 1 to 2 p.m.

A little later in the afternoon, over in the convention center’s Room 6DE, the cast of “Ascension” will appear from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. Syfy is hoping the highly anticipated six-hour miniseries will repeat the past glory of its biggest miniseries successes, “Battlestar Galactica” and “Alice.”  Tricia Helfer, best known to Battlestar fans as Number Six, stars in the upcoming show, set to premiere in November. It revolves around the crew of a century-long covert space journey, now 50 years into their trip. Helfer plays Viondra Denninger, the ship’s chief steward as well as the wife of Brian Van Holt’s Capt. William Denninger. Those two will be on hand at the panel, along with Andrea Roth and executive producer Philip Levens.

Of course, that’s just the tip of the iceberg for Comic-Con events. We’ll be posting more announcements and picks of what not to miss in the coming days. In the meantime, what are you excited for at Comic-Con 2014? Let us know in the comments below.
