‘Deadliest Warrior’ will go undead with zombies vs vampires

March 09, 2011 | 1:15 p.m.

There’s one thing we know about history and reality – they can only get you so far. That’s a lesson that the good folks at Spike TV have apparently figure out because this summer the show “Deadliest Warrior” will go beyond all the centurions, gangsters, ninja and Celtic warriors of yore and get down to some serious fantastical fighting. Drum roll, please…

Yes, it’s vampires vs. zombies, the undead match-up that brings to mind ”True Blood” against “The Walking Dead” or, more amusingly, “Twilight” vs “Shaun of the Dead” — and yes the idea of a cricket bat smacking into the high, glittery cheekbone of a pretty-boy bloodsucker does work for us on certain levels. This first-look promo above doesn’t give a way a lot of secrets about the show but Hero Complex was on the set and there were some promising perspectives pursued in this the first “unreal” (not to mention the first undead) match-up in the the series that will be starting its third season in July.

We’ll be writing about the set visit closer to airdate but we can tell you know that the no-pulse showdown benefitted from the guidance of three guest experts: Max Brooks (“World War Z“), Steve Niles (“30 Days of Night“), Scott Bowen (“Vampire Survival Guide“) and Matt Mogk (founder of the Zombie Research Society).  So any predictions? In the final showdown, will it be the fangs  or the braineaters?

Vampires. Especially if zombies are represented by Max Brooks. Sorry, but the guy knows nothing about "real" zombies.

    • That Guy. says:

Of course not, no one knows anything about "real zombies", and no one knows anything about "real Vampires either.

      • sHUIC,S says:

yes they do because their experts and theydon't do shit like example a zombie is immune to fire well it's notand vampires ..they dont turn into fuckingbat and die in sunrise .. thats my opinionn and damn its july 15 here wtf i wanna see it!!

  2. ZRS Staff says:

@Stephen M – Matt Mogk is also a zombie expert on that, and he's the head of Zombie Research Society. He knows his stuff.

  3. Alex says:

A lot of Deadliest Warrior fans are not happy with this. There's a lot of outrage on their Facebook page.

    • shuck says:

nah their just having fun its not like there gonna do unicorns vs griffins after this match up so let them do it:)

  4. Teadoir says:

Deadliest Warrior is a joke to begin with. This just makes overt what a lots of us have realized for some time, namely, that they deal in fantasy. Just seems like the next logical step to me. Now lets see Roman Centurian vs zombie!

  5. Karl says:

well, the undead shark has been jumped!!!!!!!!

  6. thisissostupid says:

Well this is as stupid as it gets. There is no way a zombie could EVER beat a vampire. Zombie are brain dead and have no thought process. Vampires can fly and have super-human strength. A vampire could dismember a zombie 15 different ways before it fell to the ground. Plus, I thought deadliest warrior was supposed to be about "real" warriors in history. Totally stupid.

  7. guest z says:

i actually got to work on this shoot….and it was fun as hell, can't tell ya who wins though that wouls ruin the surprise ; )

  8. Otto says:

What happens to a vampire that drinks zombie blood? What happens to a zombie that eats vampire brain?

  9. Dead Head says:

Sounds like fun. I would prefer to see zombie vs. shark though – to finally settle the argument started in Fulci's "Zombi II"

  10. Z Head says:

I personaly think this is a new way to put all those zombie and vampire fans to rest. Many people are debating that Zombies are the best or vampires are the best. Well deadliest warrior is going to solve all that i dont know why you lot are all complaining about. This Zombie Vs Vampire is just something they thought would be a good fight.

A zombie can only be defeated with the brain being destroyed, and a vampire can only be killed by Sunlight or A stake though the heart. But you have to take into account that both have ways of killing each other.

Vampires go around giving people hickies anyway. ZOMBIES FTW!!!!!

  11. drakulya says:

vampires will win, they actually have intelligence, are able to use weapons AND most importantly, they cant be infected by a zombie bite since they have no blood pressure, so even if they do get bit, there is no way the virus will be able to get to the brain and take control of the vampire…. the zombie, although resistant it has relativeley no intelligence, is driven by basic impulses and they dont know how to do pretty much anything besides biting, wich as i said before aint going to do much to the vampire…

  12. Derek says:

I am really anxious to see what happens on the show in regards to both the zombies and the vampires. However, there is one major factor that HAS to be considered… who's version of zombies or vampires are you using? Ramero's zombies and Stokers Vampires? Or maybe Brooks Zombies and Rice's Vampires… which ever version of either monster you use will make a huge difference in the outcome!
Should be fun as hell to watch though!

  13. joe says:

first off i do think that it is rather strange that deadliest warrior would go from historical warriors to fantasy i do believe that this will make a nice change from the same old same old. one question though how would they test the zombie and vampires attacks or defense as they each will likely not have any weapons and it would be relativly difficult to recreate vampire or zombie attack so will the entire show just be people talking about each side and then the final battle or if not how will the testing work

    • John says:

well in the interview the cast had with comic con they said to balance the match it would be a team of vampire vs a hoard of zombies with the ratio being 1 to 60 something which will make things pretty interesting

  14. Mikmo says:

Instead of zombies, how about Infected? As in fast zed. I’m not sure what kind of vampire was in Let Me In…but I’d like to see L4D infected versus that kind of vamp. Abby and Hunter FTW!!!

  15. ricardo says:

    fuck vampires zombies rule

  16. tizoc says:

    yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh vampiers

  17. Brynn says:

    ZOMBIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LETS GO ZOMBIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Justin says:

Vampires will win they are hundred time cooler it takes a horde of Zombie's to kill people while it takes one vampire to kill a group of people and still have energy to kill more

  19. Roodog says:

Vampires are sexier and smarter. They can wield a shotgun if need be.
