“Doctor Who” stars David Tennant and Billie Piper reflect on returning to the series in a bonus clip from the home video release of “The Day of the Doctor,” out Tuesday.

The clip, which was screened in theaters after showings of the 50th anniversary special, features a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the actors on the “Day of the Doctor” set.

Tennant, who reprises his 10th Doctor role in the special, confesses that he had harbored some hope to return to the series but never knew for sure whether he’d get the opportunity.

“It’s been vaguely talked about very casually for probably a couple of years now,” Tennant says in the video (watch it below). “So when people think I’ve been lying in every press interview I’ve done for the last three years, I haven’t been. I’ve genuinely not known if this was going to happen or not.”

The clip also features Piper, who played the Doctor’s traveling companion Rose Tyler in the rebooted series’ first two seasons. As a fan-favorite character, her appearance was highly anticipated, but she plays an altogether different character in the special (don’t worry — we won’t spoil it for you).

“I was very nervous about coming back, and then terrified of being in a space that suddenly belongs to other people,” Piper says in the video. “It feels like you’re coming into their space, and it’s a bit awkward at first.”

The pair share some banter about their costumes for “The Day of the Doctor,” and Piper notes that Tennant still fits into his trademark pinstripe suit.

“The Day of the Doctor” comes out on DVD as well as in a Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on Tuesday. The home video release also includes several bonus features, including the mini-episode prequels for the special, a behind-the-scenes featurette and “Doctor Who Explained” — a 50-minute look at the series’ 50-year history.

The release comes in time for this year’s Christmas special, titled “The Time of the Doctor.” The episode marks Matt Smith’s farewell as the 11th Doctor (Smith took over from Tennant in 2010) and introduces Peter Capaldi as the time-traveling alien’s next regeneration. “Time of the Doctor” airs on BBC America at 9 p.m. PST on Dec. 25.

“I’d have very happily done another year,” Smith said earlier this year. “It’s a wonderful show. But I think you gotta go when you gotta go, and for me, it just felt like the right time to move on.”

Will The Master be returning for the Christmas episode; The Time Of The Doctor?

There's a youtube clip going around, that's had over 12,000 views so far, of the apparent next 'regeneration' of The Master

who will be facing off against Capaldi in the forthcoming eighth series.

According to several tweets by tweeter '@jamesstoker1963' The Master maybe returning for the Christmas episode and beyond.

He's tweeted the youtube audition clip with these details:

"I got this apparent audition clip from a youtube user account IzzyAlive (which now seems to have been deleted) who claimed: "A friend of mine in an actors co-operative agency got sent this clip with 4 others in an email that they'd been 'CC'D into when casting another show I can't mention.

The other 3 clips were relevant to the show they were casting but this one was marked:

'The Master DW2014' (Moff select final review clip).

I don't know who the actor is but maybe they're going with an 'unknown' to play The Master after casting a 'known' actor in Peter Capaldi to play the 12th Doctor? I guess we'll find out soon enough"

This is from the Behind the Lens featurette that was originally shown after The Day of the Doctor in theatres and later released online by the BBC. It's also on the DVD/Blu-ray.
