The world of “Game of Thrones” will be seeing some new faces in Season 5, including venerable actor Jonathan Pryce, who will join the series as a religious leader with a devout (and possibly dangerous) following.

During the Friday afternoon panel presentation at San Diego’s Comic-Con International, the creators and cast of HBO’s wildly popular series revealed that nine new actors will be joining the ensemble, as the television narrative adapted from author George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels expands into the world of Dorne, the homeland of the Red Viper, Oberyn Martell.

Alexander Siddig will play Doran Martell, the ruler of Dorne and older brother to Prince Oberyn, who met with a grim fate during the show’s most recent season. Toby Sebastian will play Trystane Martell, Doran’s son, the heir to Dorne who’s betrothed to Myrcella Baratheon (Nell Tiger Free). DeObia Oparei will play Areo Hotah, a captain of Doran Martell’s palace guard.

FULL COVERAGE: Comic-Con 2014

Jessica Henwick will play Nymeria (“Nym”) Sand, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers will play Tyene Sand and “Whale Rider” actress Keisha Castle-Hughes will play Obara Sand, Oberyn’s bastard daughters (who are referred to in Martin’s novels as the Sand Snakes) famed in Dorne as fearsome fighters.

Enzo Cilenti is set to play Yezzan, who was an extremely wealthy slave trader before Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen outlawed the slave trade in the East.

Pryce, whose extensive filmography includes Terry Gilliam’s landmark “Brazil,” “Tomorrow Never Dies” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” will portray the High Sparrow, a pious man who arrives in King’s Landing to minister to the lowest of society and whose adherents decry corruption. Readers familiar with Martin’s novels might expect his presence to have very serious ramifications for certain members of the ruling class.

  1. justiceleague1 says:

Dr. Bashir is back, bitches! :)

  2. Gotcha says:

This show has too many sub plots that have been developing for 4 long seasons and just fizzled out.

    • GotchaMore says:

It was unbelievably great for a tv series. Maybe you should go enjoy Gilligan's island or something – no subplots.

  3. Buddy Foster says:

Jonathan Pryce was the original Barnabas in the 1960's "Dark Shadows" television show.

    • KLR says:

No, he was not. Barnabas Collins was played by Jonathan Frid, not Jonathan Pryce. Pryce was born in 1947 and "Dark Shadows" first aired in 1966. He would have been far too young for the role.

Remember that Google can be your friend when it comes to looking things up.

  4. KLR says:

I'm pretty happy about the casting, I suppose. I envisioned someone taller and meatier for Obara Sand. Maybe not as tall as Gwendolyn Christie, but Keisha Castle-Hughes is tiny, I think.

Of course, to be fair, I only saw her in "Whale Rider" and that was a long time ago. At least, I know the girl can act.

I'm also not sure how I feel about who they cast for Tyene because she's supposed to be blonde. Of course, they could slap a blonde wig on her they way they have for some of the other actresses, so that could be all right. More troubling is that I read her listed as Ellaria's daughter with Oberyn in another article and that's just wrong, wrong, wrong. Tyene is the daughter of a septa and Oberyn. Ellaria's daughters are young. They are still children.

Well, at least I can get excited about Alexander Siddig and Jonathan Pryce. Those two are going to bring their A games and act their bottoms off!

  5. Jonathan price was in Hundreds of UK T.V. Plays series and countless films to be honest just wiki him and you will see

  6. Eduardo Cohen says:

Yes! Dr. Bashir is back. His role of Dr. Bashir in Star Trek: Deep Space 9 was one of only a handful of positive role for Arab actors and characters at the time in American TV and films. Of course he was genetically enhanced and it was several centuries in the future. Can't wait to see him in Game of Thrones,
