‘Game of Thrones’: See new trailers, photos ahead of Season 5

The fifth season of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” premiered at the Tower of London on Wednesday for a select audience. Now, the rest of us have new trailers and photos for the 10-episode season to ponder until the show hits the small screen April 12.

The new material spotlights characters such as Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and their upcoming all-out war not only for the coveted Iron Throne, but for the land of Westeros.

The images feature a couple of characters that have not played a large part in the series so far: Princess Myrcella Baratheon (Nell Tiger Free), the younger sister of hated King Joffrey sent away seasons ago, and Tyene (Rosabell Laurenti Sellers), the third oldest of the Sand Snakes, daughters of Oberyn Martell.

Also included are images of Jon Snow and Mance Rayder (Ciarán Hinds), and Melisandre (Carice van Houten).

The videos, though, center on familiar characters seemingly taking the next steps in their journeys. The first, below, features the exiled Tyrion Lannister and Lord Varys (Conleth Hill), continuing a conversation between the two that was released in an earlier trailer.

The second features a life-or-death chat between Jon Snow and Rayder on uniting their opposing forces with a third army — as they all wait at the wall for impending doom to strike.

An earlier trailer was leaked in January after the clip made its debut at special Imax “Game of Thrones” screenings, where digitally remastered versions of Season 4’s final two episodes — “The Watchers on the Wall,” about Jon Snow and the Battle of Castle Black, and “The Children,” which sees Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) face off against the Hound (Rory McCann) — were shown on the large-format screen.

Loyal readers will have to wait much longer for Martin’s next installment in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” books, since publisher Harper Collins confirmed that Martin’s upcoming sixth book, “Winds of Winter,” will not be released this year.
