“Game of Thrones,” HBO’s lavish fantasy series boasting television’s biggest cast, is coming to the megaplex’s biggest screen when two episodes and a new trailer screen in IMAX.

For one week beginning Jan. 23, fans can see Arya Stark, Daenerys Targaryen and the Battle of Castle Black on the big screen, with select IMAX theaters showing Season 4’s final two episodes — “The Watchers on the Wall” and “The Children” — as well as a trailer for Season 5.

The episodes will be digitally remastered into IMAX format. The event marks the first time a TV network has featured programming in IMAX theaters, according to IMAX, which has yet to release a list of participating theaters.

“We couldn’t think of a series more fitting than Game of Thrones to be the first presented in IMAX,” said Greg Foster, CEO of IMAX Entertainment, in a news release. “The scope and production quality of the show is quite remarkable … It has the action, storyline and epic nature that our fans seek in IMAX.”

The sprawling series, based on the “A Song of Ice and Fire” books by George R. R. Martin, is expected to return in April.
