Marvel is set to offer fans a first look at Joss Whedon’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” as part of a new ABC TV documentary airing next month.

“Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe” will feature interviews and behind-the-scenes footage from all the Marvel films dating back to 2008′s hit “Iron Man,” as well as the company’s original One-Shot titles and the ABC series ““Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

The one-hour prime-time special will include new footage from Marvel’s upcoming releases, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Guardians of the Galaxy,” in addition to a sneak peek at the “Avengers” sequel, which is set to open in theaters next year.

Whedon’s follow-up to his $1-billion-plus 2012 hit, “The Avengers,” will see the iconic team of heroes gather once more to battle the villainous Ultron (James Spader). It’s unclear how closely the film will tie to the “Age of Ultron” story in Marvel Comics, or whether Ant-Man (the protagonist in another upcoming Marvel film, directed by Edgar Wright) will be part of the film.

In the comics, Ultron is an insane, sentient robot that tries to destroy its creator, Dr. Henry Pym, the original Ant-Man.

Joining the cast for the “Avengers” sequel are Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Godzilla,” “Kick-Ass 2″) as Quicksilver and Elizabeth Olsen (“Godzilla”) as Scarlet Witch.

Meanwhile, one of the lead Avengers, Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, will be back on the screen in a matter of weeks in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” due in theaters April 4.

Earlier this week, fans in Los Angeles were treated to a surprise preview of the first 10 minutes from the next “Captain America” film at a fan screening of “All Hail the King,” the new One-Shot included on the Blu-ray and digital download of “Thor: The Dark World,” released Tuesday.

The footage provided an early glimpse of the sequel’s mix of action-packed superheroics and 1970s-style political intrigue. (Read more about the event here, and click through the gallery above for a detailed look at “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”)

“Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe” will air at 8 p.m. EST Tuesday, March 18.

I would gamble it is the footage shown at Comic-Con last year. Maybe with an on set blurb or two. Cool nonetheless!
