Marvel has found its Luke Cage.
Actor Mike Colter (“Halo: Nightfall”) will star as Luke Cage for Marvel’s upcoming Netflix show “A.K.A. Jessica Jones,” a 13-episode series set to premiere next year.
Krysten Ritter will play the title role based on the comics character created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos.
Writer-producer Melissa Rosenberg will oversee the series, which is said to focus on Jones as she works as a private investigator in New York following a short-lived run as a superhero.
Ritter appeared in AMC’s acclaimed drama “Breaking Bad” and in the comedy “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23,” among other projects, and she can be seen on the big screen this month in Tim Burton’s “Big Eyes,” about the lives of Margaret and Walter Keane.
In addition to starring in Microsoft’s original series “Halo: Nightfall,” Colter’s credits also include turns on such television series as “The Good Wife” and “American Horror Story: Coven.”
Rosenberg’s previous credits include the short-lived ABC series “Red Widow” as well as “Dexter” and the films in the blockbuster “Twilight” saga.
“A.K.A. Jessica Jones” is the second of four planned Marvel series Netflix has signed on for, culminating in a “Defenders” miniseries; Luke Cage is also set to headline his own show.
The first of the new series, “Daredevil,” stars Charlie Cox as blind attorney / vigilante Matt Murdock and is set to arrive next year.
What do you think of the casting? Are you excited to see Ritter as Jessica Jones and Colter as Luke Cage?
