The DC Comics spinoff series “The Flash” is getting a full series.

The CW has given a full series order to the spinoff of its hit show “Arrow,” the network’s president, Mark Pedowitz, announced Tuesday.

“The Flash,” which stars Grant Gustin as a young Barry Allen, the fastest man alive, opened to positive reviews and delivered the network’s highest-rated series premiere with 6.1 million viewers tuning in live or watching on DVRs within three days of its air date. The series is from Warner Bros. Television and executive producers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and David Nutter, who shepherded “Arrow” to success.

The Barry Allen version of the Flash first appeared in 1956 and was a founding member of the Justice League of America, though it’s unclear whether an iteration of the hero will feature in Warner Bros.’ planned “Justice League” feature film. However, Ezra Miller (“The Perks of Being a Wallflower”) will star in a big-screen take on the Flash in 2018, DC announced last week.

Although DC won’t have a superhero back on the big screen until 2016’s “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” it will soon have four live-action TV series on the air. In addition to the CW’s “Arrow” and “The Flash,” NBC will unveil “Constantine” this Friday.

Over on Fox, the Dark Knight’s hometown “Gotham” has become one of the breakout hits of the fall season, with the show focusing on the vigilante’s longtime establishment ally James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) in his pre-commissioner detective days and Bruce Wayne as a child as dangerous rogues rise .
