Emmy-nominated actor Victor Garber is set to join the CW’s new series “The Flash,” playing Dr. Martin Stein, one half of the DC Comics entity known as Firestorm.

Warner Bros. Television announced “Alias” actor Garber’s casting Thursday in a statement describing Stein as “a brilliant but arrogant nuclear physicist” who becomes fused with the younger, impulsive Ronnie Raymond (Robbie Amell).

“The Flash” is from Warner Bros. Television and executive producers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and David Nutter, who shepherded “Arrow” to success. Nutter also directed the show’s first episode, which premiered Tuesday to solid ratings — ranking as the CW’s most-watched and highest-rated series premiere since “The Vampire Diaries” in 2009.

According to WBTV, 4.54 million viewers watched the first episode, which introduced audiences to actor Greg Gustin’s take on the role of Barry Allen, the fastest man alive.

The Barry Allen version of the Flash first appeared in 1956 and was a founding member of the Justice League of America, though it’s unclear whether an iteration of the hero will feature in Warner Bros.’ planned “Justice League” feature film.

While DC won’t have a superhero back on the big screen until 2016’s “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” it will soon have four live-action TV series on the air. In addition to the CW’s “Arrow” and “The Flash,” NBC will unveil “Constantine”  later this month.

Over on Fox, the Dark Knight’s hometown “Gotham” has become one of the breakout hits of the fall season, with the show focusing on the vigilante’s longtime establishment ally James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) in his pre-commissioner detective days and Bruce Wayne as a child as dangerous rogues rise .

One Response to Victor Garber set for key ‘Flash’ role as Dr. Martin Stein

I'm really enjoying this show thus far even though I'd initially groaned over some of the casting selections. As likable as Gustin is in this role, I think he'd actually be more perfectly cast as Marvel's webslinger. IMO he just has that look and persona-more than the previous selections. Still, he and the rest of the cast are fun to watch as the show developes. Love that the included J.W.Shipp from the earlier series.
