Rick Grimes and his ragtag crew of zombie apocalypse survivors are back on the small screen Sunday night for “The Walking Dead” Season 2 90-minute premiere.

Based on “The Walking Dead” comics by writer Robert Kirkman and artists Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard, the AMC television series made basic-cable history last season as the most-watched drama when 6 million viewers tuned in for the finale. The new season jumps from six episodes to 13, and executive producer Glen Mazzara is taking the reins from former showrunner Frank Darabont.

The new season follows Rick Grimes as he leads the group out of Atlanta, to possible sanctuary (and new characters) at Hershel’s farm.

“It feels very much like an invasion,” the show’s star Andrew Lincoln said in a press statement. “There is this safe haven that’s working perfectly well, and they seem to be getting on perfectly well without us. And we come in, and explode their world.”

  9. JimBo says:

After seeing premiere it looks like it should be better than last season, when it should have been called "Walking Slow" for packing about 1-1/2 episodes of story into the full season.

  10. alex jordanov says:

the writers are horrible ! How come they only see them coming when the walkers are 90 feet away. What's this guy doing w/ binoculars on the roof if he can't see 400 walkers ? And the blonde ? She just leaves the door open… You would think they would have some experience by now… the writers and the characters.

  11. gav says:

  12. lisa says:

LOVE the walking dead and characters, awesome. was hoping i would of been selected in the first season to be a zombie, that would have been a blast! Merle is coming back :) and i bet otis will drop by his family's home, who will dispatch him?
