New ‘Alice in Wonderland’ trailer takes you away

Dec. 16, 2009 | 8:34 p.m.
Tim Burton has a very important date on March 5…

This is the fifth trailer for “Alice,” which is clearly one of the most anticipated films of 2010. Will it be one of Burton’s signature films or will the movie lose its way with a classic story that is full of surreal swoon but doesn’t have the linear plot pay-off that Hollywood blockbusters usually demand?

Well, now, isn't it obvious that "Alice In Wonderland" should be turned into an action-adventure movie that focuses primarily on The Mad Hatter and Red Queen? Of COURSE it is, because we live in the age of the "re-imagining." And if anyone could have used a boost to the imagination, it's Lewis Carroll, right?

  2. Kasey says:

I wonder how long it will take Tim Burton to announce that he is going to revamp The Wizard of Oz?

  3. Nathan says:

I've already filed this one under "Movies that could have been great if it weren't for gross overuse of CGI."
HBC does appear to make a great queen, though.

    This is a lot Zenoscope's Wonderland Books…

Thanks anyway, I'll be (re)watching the 1933 Paramount version.

As usual, Hollywood thinks that the classics of literature need their help: what Wonderland is this? I can't quite seem to place it. Maybe it is the one that lives right next door to Getland. You know, where Beowulf takes place? In that other piece of literature that had to be doctored in order to fit the palate of idiots and simpletons? At what point will these hack writers realize that if a work of art has survived for hundreds if not thousands of years and is regarded by all as a classic, then no matter what their sticky little fingers do to it, they will ruin it. Leave it alone! And get an imagination. Write something original. Create!

    Elijah Wood as the madhatter!…..:)

To all those grumpy old nostalgic people that think it is cool to dislike new stuff based on old stuff without having seen it: wait and see…Mr Burton as certainly lots of talent, and I am confident that he will be able to transport us once again into one of those dark and strange universe…
Each generation has the right to bring its touch and vision into old masterpiece, as long as it is made with talent. We cannot judge from a trailer.

    Whhalll~~
I think I'm able to separate the different stories in my mind & my appreciation. Obviously Burton et al is not repeating the original story but enhancing it & creating another story – sort of 'through a looking glass' technique…
Few films recreate 'The Book' of any story, so this seems to accept that, & moves into the film genre with a film version of a old book.
    I do wish I had been foresighted enough as a 5yo to hang onto my grandmother's original copy of the books though ;;{
I was fascinated with the silvered binding & my mean jealous little sister ripped it up when we fought over it.

    How utterly unappealing.

In all honesty, this is only the second trailer. They released a teaser trailer half a year ago, and since then they've tried to fool people with "new" trailers that are in reality just a rehash of the first (same clips just arranged in a different order, no new footage until now).
By the way, they've released an extended version of this new trailer. Believe it or not but we finally get to hear Alice speak more than one line! Maybe if more people had seen that version there wouldn't be all the complaining that this is going to be Mad Hatter in Wonderland…
