COMIC-CON 2010: And the Green Lantern power ring goes to … [Updated]

Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern

The Green Lantern corps has a new member. By the time you read this, a lucky fan already may have won an exact replica of the power ring worn by Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) in the Warner Bros. film due next year.

I’ve seen the ring, and it’s a fascinating artifact — very different from the traditional clean, monochromatic ring of the comics.

Check back here at Hero Complex for an exclusive interview with the winner. [Updated: Andrei Baru won  the ring.]

The ring was set as the big give-away surprise during the opening panel in Hall H on Saturday at Comic-Con International. Reynolds was to be joined on stage by costars Mark Strong, Peter Sarsgaard and Blake Lively as well as director Martin Campbell, producer Donald DeLine and screenwriter Greg Berlanti. It’s revealing, though, that Warner executive wanted to open the panel with Geoff Johns, the chief creative officer of DC Entertainment and a famous name to comics fans as a star writer who has revived and reshaped the mythology of Green Lantern.

I moderated the “Green Lantern” panel and will have a lot more from backstage…
