Hmmm, maybe Tony Stark is hitting more than the mini-bar these days.
The trip-tastic image above is a special “variant” Marvel cover that will appear on some editions of “Avengers” No. 2, which hits stores on June 23. The artwork is by Alan Aldridge, whose work is quite familiar to rock fans of the 1960s and 1970s.
The London native was the kaleidoscope eye behind some truly memorable album art, including the illustrations for the 1975 release “Captain Fantastic and the Brown-Dirt Cowboy“ by Elton John and for 1966’s “A Quick One,” the sophomore release by the Who,
He also did some startling artwork for paperback books, such as his memorable science fiction imagery for Penguin and his contributions to the 1969 landmark book “The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics,” a treasured volume on my own shelf and a book that actually manages to add more contours and colors to the Fab Four’s already vivid real estate in the public imagination.
